Hey, guys! I’ve noticed that there are a lot of artists who struggle with “same face syndrome,” or the tendency to draw all their characters with the same face. To help you combat this, I’ve created two different challenges!
The first (pink) one is mainly geared towards artists who are struggling with same face syndrome and want to start branching out. It covers topics that a lot of artists struggle with when drawing faces, such as age, weight, and face shapes. It’s not super specific, so you still have some wiggle room.
The second (yellow) one is a bit harder and is mainly geared towards artists who want to really challenge themselves to diversify their faces. Personally, I think this one’s the most fun to work with despite it being more difficult. Chances are with this one, you’re not going to be drawing a whole bunch of beautiful people. You don’t have to roll for every option on this one either. A certain combination of rolls from 10/13 of the options may give you a great character idea, and that’s great!
I hope you guys enjoy these! I’d love for you to send me your drawings if you do one (or both) of them.
1. It starts out easy enough, and then the you realize the past tense of ‘lie’ is also the present tense of ‘lay.’
2. Once you lay a book on the desk, it isn’t laying there. It’s lying there.
Even after all that, you think you’ve got it right, but then…
NOPE. Because…
3. When you go on vacation, you spend your time lying on the beach, not laying in the sand – unless you’re doin’ the nasty, in which case you would be ‘laying someone in the sand’ (and getting sand all up in your… you know).
AHHHHHHGHGHGHGH!
Go home, English. You’re drunk.
One more thing … If you’ve been trying to teach your dog to ‘lay down,’ but she just stares at you like you’re an idiot, she’s probably a Grammar Nazi.
Something horrifying happened today at work, and I‘ve got no one else to blame than me. In the recent weeks I’ve been spreading myself too thin, a bad habit of mine. Between my work, my mother’s company/clients, my sister’s drama of the day, insomnia’s return, tight drawing schedule that I made for myself and wanted to keep no matter what, I became negligent.
I won’t neglect the people around me, and I don’t want to neglect my drawing, but it’s becoming impossible for me to keep up with everything, especially when I don’t get enough sleep.
I need a schedule/deadline for drawings/projects that I can orient myself on, but the current one seems impossible for me to keep. So, I’m giving myself more lee-way.
– I will NOT stress myself over a missed daily scribble, and will take the time of commute to nap when I need to. I made the rule of dailies for myself because initially I needed that kick; not anymore. – From now on, the b-day drawings will be posted not on the day, but with a flexibility of a week (I love the characters and really want to draw them all at least once) – Merlin au will go up once a month, on the 24th. (I’ll adjust that if/when I feel like I can do more) – Independent doodles or requests are not included in this schedule, but if I can’t finish something within a day I’ll drop it.
I’m trying to stay sane right now, and making adjustments in my schedule calms me down. I never know my own limits until something goes wrong, but I learn. And next time, hopefully, the one to suffer from my mistakes won’t be someone else.
